Buckingham Parish Church

Safeguarding

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT SOMEONE:

Seek advice from our Parish Safeguarding Officers:
Jane Wardale and Glynnis Eastwood (safeguarding@bpchurch.uk) or visit: oxford.anglican.org/safeguarding.

BPC is committed to the safeguarding, care and nurture of all in our church community, particularly children, young people and vulnerable adults.

The PCC has appointed Jane Wardale and Glynnis Eastwood  as the Parish Safeguarding officers.  They are responsible for making sure that policies and procedures are followed to ensure that the young and vulnerable adults are cared for properly.  As part of this they manage the recruitment of volunteers, including obtaining Disclosure and Barring Service clearance.

Please do contact Jane and Glynnis (safeguarding@bpchurch.uk ) if you have any questions about safeguarding, or about volunteer recruitment.

Volunteering to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults
It is important that we know a little bit about those who volunteer to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults at BPC, so when you take on a role working with these groups you are asked to complete an application form and confidential declaration form, and to apply for DBS clearance.  You will find a guide to the process, and copies of the forms, below.

Advice and Guidance
The following guides are an excellent source of information on good practice when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults

Training:
Training in good safeguarding practice is an essential part of equipping our volunteers with the skills and knowledge to ensure the safety and care of children and vulnerable adults who come into contact with the church.  We offer training at 2 levels, depending on the volunteer role being undertaken, these are:

  • Level C0: Basic Awareness Training

This is an e-learning module, which provides a good grounding in the issues relating to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.  It is recommended for all individuals within our church community who need or wish to have a basic awareness of safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults

To access the training module go to: https://safeguardingtraining.cofeportal.org/ You will need to register, by clicking ‘create new account’ in order to access the training module.  Once you have registered, click on ‘online courses’, and then go to CO Safeguarding Basic Awareness.

When you have completed the training course, please let the Parish Safeguarding Team know that you have done so, by emailing safeguarding@bpchurch.uk   so that we can update our records.

  • Level C1: Foundation Training

This training is compulsory for all volunteers who are working with children, young people or vulnerable adults in our church.  We offer this training in a face to face session at regular intervals.  It must be renewed every 3 years.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at BP Church for our Sunday Services starting at 9am, 11am or 6pm. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits before the services begin. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

Connect Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Connect Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team.
