Confirmations at BPC

This year’s Confirmation Service will take place at 6pm on Sunday 30th November 2025.
We’re delighted that Bishop Dave Bull will be joining us to conduct the confirmations.

CONFIRMATION

What is Confirmation and Why Should I get Confirmed?
Confirmation in the Anglican Church is a special service where baptized Christians publicly affirm their faith and receive the strengthening gift of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands by a bishop. It marks a mature, personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ and live according to the promises made at baptism.

In short, baptism is a welcome into the Church; confirmation is a commissioning to be sent out from the Church.

You should get confirmed if you want to take greater responsibility for your spiritual life and deepen your relationship with God. Confirmation is also a sign of belonging fully to the Church community — it allows you to share in Holy Communion and to serve in new ways. It’s not just a ritual, but a meaningful step of faith, showing that you are ready to live as an active disciple of Christ, supported by prayer, Scripture, and the Church family.

What Happens During the Ceremony?

Presentation of candidates:
The people being confirmed are presented to the bishop.

Renewal of baptismal promises:
Candidates publicly renounce evil and affirm their faith in God and Jesus, renewing the promises made for them during their baptism as infants.

Laying on of hands:
The bishop lays hands on the candidates' heads, praying for the Holy Spirit to be upon them and strengthen them with the gifts of the Spirit.

Profession of faith:
The candidate may make a public profession of faith, answering questions related to their beliefs.

Sign of peace:
The ceremony concludes with the bishop offering a "Peace be with you" greeting to the newly confirmed.

If you are considering Confirmation, don't hesitate to speak to one of the Clergy Team.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at BP Church for our Sunday Services starting at 9am, 11am or 6pm. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits before the services begin. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Getting Connected

Connect Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Connect Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team.
